Using Google’s Search Console

Monitor your site's performance in Google Search results:

  • Make sure that Google can access your content
  • Submit new content for crawling and remove content you don't want shown in search results
  • Create and monitor content that delivers visually engaging search results
  • Maintain your site with minimal disruption to search performance
  • Monitor and resolve malware or spam issues so your site stays clean

Discover how Google Search sees your site:

  • Which queries caused your site to appear in search results?
  • Did some queries result in more traffic to your site than others?
  • Are your product prices, company contact info, or events highlighted in rich search results?
  • Which sites are linking to your website?
  • Is your mobile site performing well for visitors searching on mobile?

Managing your website with Search Console

Day to day

Search Console will email you if any unusual events occur with your properties.

  • Indications that your website has been hacked
  • Problems that Google had when crawling or indexing your site.
  • Detection that your site violates a Google search quality guideline

Note: It can take some time after verifying your site to start seeing data in Search Console reports, so add your site and verify it soon. We’ll let you know when your data becomes available.

Monthly

Make sure that you aren’t experiencing an increase in errors for your site.

Check that you don’t have any unusual dips in your click counts.

Note:  that a weekly rhythm of weekend dips, or dips or spikes over holidays, is normal.

Google Analytics is more about who is visiting your site—how many visitors you're getting, how they're getting to your site, how much time they're spending on your site, and where your visitors are coming from (geographically-speaking).

Google Search Console, in contrast, is geared more toward more internal information—who is linking to you, if there is malware or other problems on your site, and which keyword queries your site is appearing for in search results

Components that the Search Console can help with

  • Check and verify a robots.txt file
  • Fetch new content and submit to Google to index
  • View site errors
  • Structured Markup
  • Search Analytics
  • 301 redirect check
